Opotiki to Gisborne – on Foot

When motorists say it's a long way from Opotiki to Gisborne round the coast, they mean it. But last week a Mt. Albert mother and her three children completed the journey on foot. They finished in fine fettle, living proof that there are more ways of taking a holiday than rushing from place to place in a motor-car.

Moving along easily from camping-spot to camping spot, Mrs E. Begbie, her children David (l6), Bruce (12) and Margaret (10), and their Samoyed dog Sal (3) had ample time to enjoy the scenery and the wealth of memorable incidents which filled their days. Last year they did a similar trip to Northland, and another to the Chateau Tongariro;

Mrs Begbie, holding a copy of "Beautiful Gisborne," was looking forward to local visit. Of her trip, she said: "The children love it".
