Big Pour Completed
One hundred and twelve yards of concrete in one day is a lot by anybody's standards, but in Gisborne three "pours" of this amount were needed in the building of the Lytton Road bridge—one for each of the three spans.
Rope Construction Company, contractors for the bridge, had plenty of gear and men assembled for the job. In the picture below, the plant is seen in action mixing concrete for the last span.
Out of sight, a front-end loader was busy feeding the bucket lift seen at left of picture. Men at ground level on left are working scales which weigh out shingle and cement, which is then fed into the two mixers. From them, the men wheeled concrete to the site.
