Railways Up-To-Date
Behind the familiar scene of a locomotive hauling a train out of Gisborne station lies a complicated system of control in which communication play a vital part. To bring Gisborne's communications system up-to-date, improved telephone and teleprinter facilities have been installed this month.
By next year it is hoped to have the Gisborne railways telephone system fully automatic.
Technician tests portion of new installation. Ultimately Gisborne will be able to dial direct to any main station in New Zealand.
