New Waterfront Building

At a cost exceeding £12,000, the new Gisborne Waterside Workers' Amenity Block opened this month compares with or exceeds the facilities for the comfort and convenience of waterside workers anywhere in New Zealand. The block, which is situated opposite the junction of Crawford Road and the Esplanade, fronting the harbour channel, includes a large dining room, a cafeteria, a large locker room, and up–to–date ablutions facilities. Extensive use of stainless steel, formica and pine panelling have produced a thoroughly modern and attractive set of rooms with facilities to handle the needs of 120 men, the present strength of the Gisborne union.
