"Wee Jimmy"
"Mother" of 64

Meet "Wee Jimmy", a Buff Pekin Bantam cock owned by Mr and Mrs D. A. Walker, of 42 Stanley Road.

Jimmy has won two championships and a sheaf of first prize tickets. But that is not his enduring claim to fame. What makes him different is his "mother instinct".

Three years ago he was left in a cage with a hen and her chicks. That was his big chance. He promptly took over and mothered half the brood.

Since then he has brought up a family of 64. Currently he has a family of eight––4 Andalusians, a Chinese Silkie, two Phuckoo chicks, and a pencil–blue Racing Homer pigeon. The chicks were nine days old when these pictures were taken, the pigeon three weeks.

$$$ as though he might be $$$ sex–change operation $$$ on brood. Pigeon $$$ chick is almost too big to enjoy Jimmy's protective shelter.

Feeding time for the family.

Jimmy looks up in amazement at big Blue Andalusian cockerell twice his size, one of his "babies" from last year.

Sentiment has no place in the fowlrun. Jimmy gets off his bike properly when he imagines cockerell might have designs on his present family.

With the menace removed, Jimmy crows his triumph. Poker–faced pigeon remains impassive throughout. Little white chick behind pigeon is Chinese Silkie, which underneath feathers has a skin as black as ink.

Jimmy is not concerned when Peter the Cockatiel perches on his back.
