Gisborne's Longest Straight Street

Possibly in July, probably in August, the Lytton Road bridge, joining Mangapapa and Te Hapara, will be open for traffic, linking the two parts of Gisborne's longest (nearly 2½ miles) straight street.

The bridge will provide a much-needed link between the two north-western suburbs of the city, and also help to relieve congestion caused by the closing of the Roebuck Road bridge.

Pictures, by Alan E. George, taken from about the same place, show the old pipeline bridge, now re-erected at Manutuke, over the Te Arai, and the new bridge under construction.
