The view from the top of the Whareratas, looking towards Gisborne. The complete reconstruc-ion of the highway from Morere over the hills to Bartlett's Hill, where the present wide sealing ends, is now expected to be completed within the next five years. A tender was let recently for the major reconstruction of the worst section, the Morere Hill. When this, and the road over the tops, are completed, Gisborne's so-called highway to the south will be brought up to modern standards.
