Remember the run of "doubles" which earned world-wide publicity for Mr F. O. Amann, formerly of Kaiti and now of Salisbury Road? Twin poppies, marrows, lettuces, and many other fruits and flowers in Mr Amann's garden baffled the experts. Then, to cap all, Mrs Amann gave birth to twins. This picture shows the twins, Ron and Ruth, on the beach at Waikanae.

When a well-known young teacher at Central School left his car in Derby Street on the day he was due to leave Gisborne to be married, he was taking a risk. Fellow staff-members with a sense of humour and a pot of paint were soon on the job.
