A Camera At Morere

One interpretation of the name Morere is "a giant's stride". For Gisborne people this attractive resort is in fact only a giant's stride south of their city. The fact that to get there by road requires 40 miles of travelling on one of the country's queerest main highways did not deter large numbers of people from making the trip during the Easter holidays. Many spent the whole vacation there, others an odd day— enjoying respite from work amid ideal surroundings which include hot mineral springs and baths.

Work on the highway is, however, proceeding. Big improvements are being made to Kopua Hill near Bartletts. But it will be a long time before the narrow, winding road across the Whareratas is brought up to modern standards.
