Winter Sports Again

The winter sports season got under way officially on April 20 —a day more suited to swimming and sunbathing than running about in football and basketball togs.

There weren't many players who were not glad when their first games for the season were over.

At the Oval, where a full ticket of football matches was played, the ground was as hard, as a board. In this picture, a player waiting for his match to start summed up the prewailing atmosphere by stripping off for a little quiet sunbathing.

Soccer is growing in popularity with schoolboys.

Shows somewhat less than half the boys who will be playing soccer at the reserve this winter.

Indoor basketball devotees gathered in good numbers at the Army Hall for the first practice night of the season. Although there was much apprehension earlier that the army would require more space in the hall and that this would affect the size of the court, no change has been made so far to cause this.
