Unusual Decorations

The most beautifully decorated hall in Gisborne might well be the title bestowed on the Gisborne Yacht Club's new premises near the Cook Memorial. The walls of the upper floor, finished in pine panelling, include several mural-type paintings by Mr W. A. Phipps, the well-known local painter and signwriter. Another panel features all the knots a good yachtsman should know (below, right), and yet another (below) give flag and pennant codes. At right is a representation of Captain Cook's Endeavour in Poverty Bay.
