School-Girl Athletes

Seven records were broken and two more were equalled at the annual athletic sports of the Gisborne Girls' High School. Last year's junior champion, Joan Presland, competing this year in the intermediate grade, broke four records, and equalled one. She is seen at right winning the 100 yards sprint in l2.2sec, on a par with the existing record.

All three champions broke or equalled records at the meeting.
Joy Brownie (left) the senior champion, equalled the record (9.4sec) for the 75yds. Sharon Read (right), the junior champion, lowered the junior 75 yd time from 9.4sec to 9.3sec. In the intermediate grade Joan Presland (centre) established new records for the broad jump, 75yds, 80 metres hurdles, and hop, step & jump, & equalled 12.2 sec. in the 100yds.
