Young Player is Tops in Tennis
Possibly the youngest player ever to hold the Poverty Bay and East Coast women's singles championship is an up-and-coming young (16 years old) tennis player named Robin Jenkinson. In the title tournament during the Christmas holidays she gathered in a crop of top honours which made her by far the most outstanding player on the courts—the women's singles, the mixed doubles, the doubles (the latter with her mother, Mrs Audrey Jenkinson).
Robin has been playing since she was 13, is now noted for consistent, steady performances on the courts, with occasional flashes of brilliant play which suggest she may go far in the game. How she can trap an opponent into a mistake is shown in the picture below.

Two reasons why Robin is a good player are her father and mother, Brian and Audrey Jenkinson, whose coaching has extended far beyond their own daughter to include any youngster who wants to learn the game. They are seen at right in a mixed doubles match (in foreground, Irene Raureti, of Matata). Below, Mrs Jenkinson serving to L. Barnett, of Rotorua.
