The status of the Gisborne railway station has received a boost following the introduction of a new railway grading system. The station now has a chief stationmaster and two assistant stationmasters.

Mr Lawson Field, Clifford St., who has been awarded the life membership gold badge of the Aviation Industry Assn. Mr Field, the managing director of Fieldair, Ltd., was the first president of the Assn.

Russell Poole, son of Mr & Mrs O. F. A. Poole, Rimu St., who has been selected to represent Gisborne at a jamboree in England in memory of the late Lord Baden Powell. A Takitimu Sea Scout, he will leave next May.

Mr E. Atkinson, who has been promoted from wagon supply officer to assistant stationmaster (passengers) and Mr V. Soper, chief station-master.

The assistant station-master (goods) is Mr D. Emms. He was formerly passenger supervisor.
Mr Soper came to Gisborne from Stratford.

Mr Bill Windie, Dickson St., who was elected to the executive of the N.Z. Federated Labourers' Association at its annual conference in Gisborne.
Mr Windle is secretary of the Poverty Bay Labourers' Union and is a former president.
He is a member of the New Zealand Horticultural Apprenticeship Committee, and is a former member of the Gisborne Trades Council.
