Child Art

A special display in the Gisborne art gallery recently gave parents an opportunity to see the truly remarkable progress being made in this district with art in schools.

The quality of the work is such that Gisborne and East Coast children have gained a New Zealand-wide reputation.

Modern systems of teaching art in school are vastly different from those which Mum and Dad remember. The aim is to provide an outlet for children's self-expression, rather than to train them as artists.

The bold colours and sweeping lines of the pictures exhibited were striking proof of the system's success.
