The yachtsmen of Gisborne must by now be almost as proficient with hammers and trowels as they are with rudders and spinnakers. In the past season or two, members of the Yacht Club have built their own club–house, and, in this picture, they are laying concrete for a slipway into the harbour channel close to the signal station.

By balancing pennies round the rim of this glass, drinkers at the Gisborne Hotel are able to amuse themselves and assist crippled children at the same time. An Australian visitor introduced the novel collecting idea.

A picture taken recently in the waloeka gorge, where major reconstruction work on the highway is being pushed ahead from both the Opotiki and Gisborne ends. Car is negotiating portion where hills are being cut away to make room for two–car road above the river.
