Sponge Bay has long been a favourite playground for exuberant Gisborne youngsters. With its rocky cliffs & "new chum's gold", it has all the fascination of a treasure island or a smuggler's cove. Unusual rock pictured here just had to be climbed.

Caring for their trains is more than just a job to Gisborne railwaymen. They take a pride in the neat appearance of trains leaving this station. And they made an extra effort with the special train which carried Gisborne passengers to the recent blossom festival in Hastings.

The Lister twins are both Bay of Plenty champions. In addition Peter (pictured left) holds High School and YMCA trophies for most scientific boxer.

Passing on boxing experience he gained as a professional in Australia is Dick Cook, Aberdeen Rd. In 2 years his class has already acquired a big collection of cups.
