The highly prized Queen's Badge for service to Scouting has been awarded to Charles Preddey, son of Mr & Mrs J. F. Preddey, Aberdeen Rd., & Errol Vincent, son of Mr & Mrs S. R. Vincent, Ballance St.
Charles, a troop leader in the Warneford Troop, will travel to Fiji with David Bacon next January to represent Gisborne at a Scout gathering.
Errol is a senior Scout attached to the Wesley Troop. He has been in the Scouting movement for 10 years.
Garth Clark, pictured back–stage in the Opera House with Sylvia Lane & Raewyn Gee, returned recently from a visit to Australia during which he was a member of the chorus in the Sydney Light Opera Company's production of "The Student Prince". Son of Mr & Mrs E. D. Clark, Muir St., Garth was a mountie in the recent Gisborne production "Rose Marie".
Miss Diane Kelly, daughter of Mr & Mrs E. J. Kelly, Miro Street, who is one of eight N. Z. girls selected recently as air hostesses by the National Airways Corporation.
Bill Lanigan, former Maori All Black, of Whangara, was killed when his motorcycle ran off the road near Tokomaru Bay last month.
Bill first became prominent as a Rugby player when he served in Japan with the occupation forces. He played for East Coast in 1948, and toured Australia as a Maori All Black the following year.
He was a winger in the Coast team which unsuccessfully challenged Wellington for the Ranfurly Shield in 1953.
He was a likely prospect for the combined team to play the Springboks this season, but broke his arm in a trial game.
