Intermediate boys leave school at start of 4¼-mile run; seniors ran 5¼ miles
Five hundred and forty boys set off down Stanley Road this month in what must be Gisborne's biggest race.
The event was the High School's annual steeplechase. Plans to use a new course at Tamarau this year were thwarted by overnight rain, so the boys ran over the old route — along the beach and across the golf links.
The Tamarau course may be used next year.

First home among the seniors was Peter Bennett, but Brian Proudfoot, who started off scratch, recorded the fastest time of 30 min. 30.8 sec.

No records were broken, but conditions were pleasantly cool, and most boys seemed to enjoy the jaunt in the open air.
