Peter Blair scores try for Poverty Bay
Poverty Bay's match with North Auckland was notable for three reasons: All Black star Peter Jones was seen here for the first time; half-back Jimmy Duncan was playing his 51st consecutive game for Poverty Bay; and Frank Bayliss was controlling his last match after refereeing for 20 years.
The union made a presentation to Duncan, to mark his 50th game, played at Napier against Hawke's Bay.
In a tough forward battle Poverty Bay played well, but it wasn't their lucky day and North Auckland won, 12 to six.
