Level Crossing Smash

Road safety committeemen are pressing for improved warning devices at level crossings in the city following a serious collision between a car and train in Chalmers Road.

Five people were injured, three of them seriously. The accident victims were Mrs M. Clark, 89 Chalmers Road, who was driving the car; her daughter Marguerete, aged 1 year, 11 months; her son Roger, aged 3 years, 11 months; Mrs M. Hanlen, and her son, Phillip, aged 3. Phillip and Marguerete were seriously hurt.

The train was on the Moutohora line, travelling towards the city.
