Nobody Scooped The Pool

In 25 seconds, could you name the 5 nations appointed to confer in Cairo with the Egyptian premier on the future control of the Suez Canal?

You couldn't? Well, that's too bad, for the right answer in the right place, on the Opera House stage September 3, could have won you goods worth a cool £500.

The occasion: Jack Maybury's celebrated "Scoop the Pool" quiz contest, which booked out the Opera House in 3½ hours, brought one of New Zealand's foremost radio entertainers to Gisborne, along with his pretty wife, Dorothy Jean, advertised Colgate-Palmolive products, and netted the local Athletic Club the sum of £200.

Gisborne competitors did poorly in show, but at Wairoa, the big prizes were won by lucky participants.
