Mrs McKenzie Smart is pictured here with Mr G. Rowlings, of Riwaka, Nelson, with whom she won the all-England mixed doubles against high-class competition.

In the same championships, Mrs W. H. Kirk, of Christchurch, won the singles title, and Miss I. Wainwright, Hamilton, won the all-England Reel Bowl.

Mrs McKenzie Smart also figured prominently in the fourth test, winning the mixed doubles, and putting up a hard fight in the singles.

Rose, who graduated at Cook Hospital three years ago, has announced her engagement to Mr L. U. Clifford, an orchardist, of Saltwater River, Tasmania. She is a former member of Gisborne Little Theatre.

Hard-working groups like the catering committee pictured here helped to make the occasion a success.

Mrs G. McKenzie Smart, of Rutene Road, Gisborne, has shared in recent New Zealand successes in the British croquet championships played at Hurlingham Club, London.

Rose Callahan, former Cook Hospital nurse, is pictured at Tasman Bush Hospital, Tasmania, where she is charge sister. The hospital is at Koonja, 40 miles from Hobart.

Attending to the comfort and needs of 600 girls was a mammoth task for the Poverty Bay Basketball Association — the hosts for the recent national tournament.

War Memorial Floodlit
Gisborne's war memorial, on the banks of the Turanganui River, was floodlit recently in tests carried out by the Power Board. Four lights are to be permanently installed. They will make the memorial stand out with striking effect.
