Gisborne from the Gasworks

High up in the tower of the Gisborne Gasworks there are windows which (on this and the next three pages) give "Photo News" readers a new viewpoint on the city.

Pointed south in this picture, the camera has recorded the view across the city shopping area to the bay and Young Nick's Head. Fire brigade flats are at left, facing Grey Street, which intersects with Gladstone Road at far right of photograph. High building in centre of picture is the Opera House.

Looking down the Taruheru to the Peel Street bridge and the Waimata junction, with the war memorial just visible at right. In the distance is Kaiti. At left, almost hidden in the trees, is Kelvin Rise, now the home of Gisborne's art gallery and museum.
