Aunt Daisy
On the Air

"Here we are again, happy as can be..."

Aunt Daisy and her young followers have been singing that song over Percy Stevens' Station 2XM for 19 years now, and the words are as true today as they were when the session began.

It is doubtful if there is a more happy, carefree radio programme in N.Z.

Literally hundreds of young Gisborne men and women can remember making their radio debuts with Aunt Daisy in years gone by.

And each year brings a new crop of youngsters to share enjoyment of their talents with the listeners of Station 2XM.

Without any thought of gain, Aunt Daisy has devoted hour upon hour of her time to encourage the young performers of the children's session. She accompanies them on the piano, announces the items, organizes the programmes and arranges the rehearsals too.

Causes like Corso and the Heni Materoa Home have benefitted from her efforts.

A regular feature of the sessions is the "Story Man", as he tells the children a tale of Borneo and of a man who worshipped idols.

Like Aunt Daisy, he prefers to keep his real name out of the broadcasts, but as plain "Mr Story Man" he enthralls hundreds of young listeners every week.
