4000 Are A Lot Of Sheep

One of the biggest mobs of sheep ever seen on the road in recent times, or any time for that matter, was driven by Mr Alister Hobbs (of 19 Moana Road. Wainui Beach) and his helpers from the central plateau, near Taupo, to the Horotiu Freezing Works near Ngaruawahia. The four thousand sheep travelled about 100 miles in all, in easy stages, this distance being longer than the direct road way because of traffic. Even so, Mr Hobbs found that most car drivers were pretty good when meeting the mob. This photo, from the Auckland Star, shows Mr Hobbs in charge of the mob as it progresses along Peryer Road near Morrinsville.
