Fine efforts by Glenn Sutton and Kim Gregory saw them head off all the other entrants in the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay open and handicap long distance swims on March 9. Glenn Sutton took both the Johnstone Cup (for the men's open over two miles) and the Greer Cup (for open handicap over one mile). Kim Gregory took the Lewis Cup for the first woman home over two miles. Both swimmers are members of the McGlashen Club.
