Nancy's Last Letter

Thirty years plus after taking over the job as postmistress at the Waipaoa Store, Mrs Nancy Hyde has handed over the last letter. The people of the district have gone on to the rural delivery service so there is no need for a post office any longer. Mr and Mrs Hyde ran the general store at Waipaoa since building a new house, with shop attached, in 1944. The shop was actually closed last year when the Hydes retired, but Mrs Hyde has carried on with the Post Office up until now. The office was operated from its own special corner in the store.
