Guide & Scout News

February 22 is Founders Day for the Scouts and Thinking Day for the Guides. This year the Scouts held a short service in Kelvin Park to honour the movement's founder, Lord Baden-Powell, while the Guides gathered at Wainui Beach at sunrise to commemorate the birthdate of Lady Baden-Powell, and remember Guides in other lands.

Also at the sunrise service for the Guides and Brownies Mrs Hilary Hayiock, the New Zealand programme commissioner (left), invested Mrs Joyce Mills as the new Waiapu provincial commissioner.

At the Scouts' Founders Day ceremony Mr Jim Stevens, the zone commissioner, presented the Reverend John Loughton, the new Scout chaplain with his chaplain's certificate.
