This And That

10 Months & 26,086 Matches

From Mrs Joyce Weir of Oman Road come these pictures of the fantastic match model made by 14-year-old Garry Wilson of Wyndham, in Southland. Mrs Weir got the pictures while holidaying with the Wilson family. The model of the actual Wilson home is to the scale of 1cm to 1ft and is wired for lighting. It took Garry 10 months to make and contains 26,086 matches. He has also made table tops which are very intricately worked.

From Mr Vic Cann of 124 De Lautour Road come these two pics.

The roof of the model is hinged, allowing one to look inside.

The garage and boat are also modelled from matches.

Mr Cann just happened to be "Johnny-On-The-Spot" after this accident on the corner of Rutene Road and Harris Street in the middle of January. Fortunately no one was hurt but even if accident figures are down on last year there are still too many accidents in Gisborne – and elsewhere!

Mr Cann is a very keen gardner and no one was more surprised than he to see this perfectly healthy and ordinary tomato actually start growing another tomato plant from the top of the fruit. Perhaps the days of the trifids are not so far away after all!
