A Visit To The Old School

Mr Thomas Manuel Lima, 97 and the oldest old boy, paid a visit to the Makauri School late last year. He was a first day pupil of the first Makauri School which opened in March, 1887, and was much interested to see the present building and set-up. He is pictured with the newest pupil at the school, five-year-old Sally Higgins, whose father (Trevor Higgins), grandfather (Jack Higgins), and great-grandmother (Mrs Julie Higgins, nee Walsh) all attended the Makauri School.

Just thousands and thousands of milk bottle tops have been collected by Raewyn Bradley, daughter of Max and Esme Bradley of the Riverdale Foodmarket. Milk bottle tops take a lot of collecting and Raewyn has been helped by a lot of friends and customers in her quest, some tops even coming from as far as Morere. The tops will be sent to Auckland for recycling, and Raewyn proposes giving the proceeds to the I.H.C.

A choice food in many overseas countries but not yet gaining much favour in the culinary world in New Zealand is the octopus. This one was caught by David Miller, 144 Birrell Street, during a "Rocky Shore" expedition by Cobham School. David, assisted by his brother Craig and sister Suzanne, ponders the best way to use the octopus.
