Racing The Lion
Actually in this case it was for the Lion beer which was the prize again in the annual "Lion Wheelbarrow Derby." The race takes place from the Sandown Park Hotel to the downtown Royal Hotel and this year's winners covered the distance, through soaring temperatures, in record time.
Recovering from their effort the winners are, from left, in front, Peter Johnson, Rod Scragg and Graeme Fox and, at back, Gavin Mors-head and Graham Eastgate. At back right are Alec Mackie of the Royal Hotel, and Brian Ancrum, "Lion" representative and organiser of the race.
The large field for the race speeds away from the Sandown Hotel car park.
