First Talks

The first conference of the New Zealand Maori Land Incorporations was held in Gisborne at the Boys High School assembly hall. Delegates from all over the country attended the conference was which was opened by Prime Minister Bill Rowling.

On the day prior to the conference the Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Matt Rata, and his party, were accorded a special welcome at the Poho-o-Rawiri Marae. Included in the group were members of the Fijian Government who were on a fact-finding tour of this country. Mr Rata (second from left) waits for Prince Tupara to complete the challenge.
