Riding In Aussie

Ten members of the Gisborne Pony Club are off to Australia on a fourteen-day riding holiday. Every second year Gisborne members take a trip to Australia while every other year a team of Australians visits New Zealand. The above team will compete in the Sydney Zone 26 Jamboree for two days and will then have time on their own for the rest of the stay. The travellers are from the Tawai, Turanganui and Kaiti branchesof the club.

Tent pegging, where the rider has to spear a piece of paper as he gallops past, is also on the Australian jamboree programme. This is the first time this facet of the sport has been seen in Gisborne and practising here are, from left, Jennie Healey, Tim Welch and Tim Bruce. The team leaves by air on December 5.
