Taking The Oath

Seven candidates took the Oath Of Allegiance at a Citizenship ceremony at the Council Chambers on August 6. Mayor Harry Barker conducted the ceremony which was held before a good attendance of councillors, relatives and friends.

Mr Louis Steigenberger of Lyall Road receives his certificate of naturalisation from Mr Barker. At back is Chief Inspector J. W. McGuire.

Mr Ngui Ng was the seventh candidate for the ceremony.

Dutch born residents Mr and Mrs Jacob Geuze also took the oath, along with Mr Steigenberger.

Originally from Malaysia, Dr Albert Lee, his wife Marina and their son Fergus, were the other candidates. They are pictured with Mr Barker after the ceremony.
