Christie Farewell
A very enjoyable staff function was held at Ulverstone to farewell Mr and Mrs Archie Christie. The Christies are going to live in Tauranga, from where Mr Christie believes it will be easier to travel to the other branches of Arch Christie Ltd. The firm also has branches in Tauranga, Wairoa, Napier, Rotorua and Hamilton, These branches have all extended from the original business started by Mr Christie in Gisborne in 1939 with a staff of four.
At the official presentation are, from left, new manager Trevor Brown, Mr Christie, Lynda Brown, Mrs Christie, and longest serving staff member Earle White, who has been with the company for just over 30 years.
With tongue in cheek, staff member Hal Andrew presents Arch Christie with some “painting gear” as a farewell token. Actually Mr Christie is a serious and prolific artist, in both oils and water colours, Perhaps his best known painting is the scene of Young Nick's Head which hangs in the DB Gisborne Hotel.
Among those present for the function were, Mr and Mrs R. H. Thatcher.
Mr and Mrs Hal Andrew.
Mr and Mrs R. F. Willson.
Janet MacRae and Michael Curtis.
