Hooping Along

The younger members of the Barry Croquet Club have been progressing in the game at a great rate with a number of handicaps being cut and quite a few showing their older opponents a thing or two. They are shown with the massive array of trophies they have collected between them over the season.

Captain and Mrs Peter McCallum have left the district. Captain McCallum, who saw naval service during the war, has been a familiar figure in Tokomaru Bay, particularly during his term of more than 20 years as harbourmaster. Those were in the days of regular calling by overseas ships and when the freezing works was in full swing.

Upon completion of the full course in Cub Leader training, candidates are presented with Wood Beads to signify their accomplishment. Two leaders at, Te Karaka completed the course recently. Presenting the Wood Beads to Messrs Terry Sutton (centre), Cub Leader, Rangatira, and Richard Tombleson, assistant Cub Leader, is Mrs Zilla Smith, Turanga District Cub Leader.
