Half-Way There

The objective of $80,000, to convert the War Memorial Hall into a theatre, has just about reached the half way mark with almost $40,000 in hand. Hundreds of donations have come in, ranging from Anonymous of $2 through to the Golden Sponsorships of $1000 from the more affluent members of the community and a large number of business enterprises. Typical of many of the golden sponsorships is that of Tasman Vaccine Laboratory Ltd. In particular because T.V.L.'s United Kingdom subsidiary is headquartered in the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. This gave the company an association with the really magnificent restoration of England's last surviving Regency theatre, the celebrated Theatre Royal. The company considered that if it could take pride in the restoration of a theatre 12,000 miles away then it should most certainly take a participant interest in the War Memorial Theatre in Gisborne.
