And Other Bowling News

Meanwhile, the lady bowlers have been taking their share of some open trophies.

This team from Kaiti waltzed away with the East Coast Women's Bowling Championship open 4's, held in Hawke's Bay recently. They trounced all opposition from between Ruatoria and Dannevirke. Kaiti also won this trophy back in '69. From left, they are bowlers Mary Webb (lead), Mona Deverell (2), Phyll Davie (3) and Nell Glover (skip).

The team must have been inspired by this season's outgoing committee which is, from left, in front, Mesdames J. Waugh (v-p), M. Deverell (treasurer) E. Bury (president), D. Waterson (secretary) and E. Butler. At back, M. Webb, I. Sparrow, K. Richards, N. Glover and L. Morrison. The Theo Nicholas Cup, an open event staged by Riverside over Easter, also drew large entries.

This was won by Wairere of Napier. With Riverside president Dee Malone (left) presenting the cup are, from left, Jean Herdman (skip), Joyce Thodson (3), Muriel Blunsdon (2) and Ivy Bethel (lead).
