The Old Yo Ho

... And a bottle of rum! Captain Morgan himself, the infamous pirate of the high seas, made use of modern conveyances when he flew into Gisborne to officially open the Gisborne Yacht Club's new clubhouse on April 6. He gave away bottles of the old pirate juice (Captain Morgan rum to you) as prizes, per courtesy of Gollin (N.Z.) Ltd, as well as distributing them for would-be pirates to splice.

Almost immediately Captain Morgan changed his mind and decided a title was not warranted. However, he had third thoughts and did grant a reprieve. (Continued overleaf.)

After arriving in Gisborne, Captain Morgan went up Kaiti Hill to pay his respects to Captain Cook.

Prior to this, however, he was met at the airport by Gisborne's "Young Yachties" where he was challenged in piratical fashion by Andrew McCulloch. In the afternoon the Captain started the yacht race, a handicap event in which the lady crews had to row out to the yachts before getting under way.
