Tough Opening
But an Air New Zealand Second

A number of hard games have come the way of Gisborne City, giving them a tough opening to the 1974 football season. In their first National League game, against New Brighton, they were defeated 3-0. They beat Caversham 1-0 in the Air New Zealand semi-final and this gave them a go at Mt Wellington in the final. In this they were beaten by three to nil. However, a number of other games over these first few weeks have also seen several other wins. The bright new star on the team's Sky Blue scene is the new goalkeeper, Keith Bowley. He made some magnificent saves against New Brighton, thus keeping that game's score to a minimum. He also did his part in keeping Mt Wellington's score down to three.
