A Family Affair

More than 100 members of the Dolman family enjoyed a family reunion at Patutahi over Easter. They are the descendants of John Edward Dolman and Ellen Ada Craill, who were married in the original Anglican Church at Patutahi on May 21, 1886. To date the issue of that union numbers 12 children, 33 grandchildren, 111 great-grandchildren and 43 great-great-grandchildren. John and Ada Dolman started an orchard at Patutahi and the property is still in the family line.

The sons of John and Ada Dolman were pretty good all-round athletes, excelling as they did in running, except for Rodney who was the bike rider of the family, actually taking the P.B. Road Champion title in 1924

This photo, taken in 1913, shows all of John and Ada Dolman's family except one son who died at an early age. From left, sitting, are Mr Dolman, Ida, Eve and Mrs Dolman, with Fred and Hope in front and, at back, Grace, Rodney, Amy, Tom, Ted, Paul and Nell, the picture actually being taken on Nell's wedding day.
