The children of the Gisborne Health Camp much appreciated the individually wrapped parcels of fruit, novelties and sweets made up for them by the Gisborne Garden Club. The presents were much enjoyed at a party especially held on the following Saturday.

From Mrs Dorothy McCreedy, 594 Gladstone Road, comes this picture of the Queen taken by Mrs McCreedy in Auckland during the recent Royal visit. Apart from showing Just how close the Queen came to her subjects it also shows how much closer than usual her private guard stayed to her as she went "walkabout." But of particular note was the fact that the Royal insignia badge was worn on his lapel and seen by the crowd. This is all quite interesting because the question is, can you really ever remember seeing any detectives or bodyguards on any of the previous Royal tours?

What was that? Well, they look like pale green brains (sort of), and in their natural habitat the wood of the tree is used by the natives to make bows and arrows. This is the fruit of one of the Osage Orange trees growing on the Baker property at Tahunga. They have been growing for 20 years and have fruited for the first time. The Osage Orange is indigenous to parts of South America — so don't wander off, unless "ya want an 'arra in ya back!"
