Hammering The Point Home

Coincidental to the gala day and appeal for funds by the Wainui Surf Club and Wainui Recreational Association on the Saturday, the Wainui Surf Club was called to a rescue along the beach opposite the Chalet Rendezvous on the Sunday. A boat and its two occupants overturned 400 yards off-shore and were rescued by members of Wainui and other surf clubs. The Wainui Club is at present erecting a new clubhouse and the gala was to raise funds for the building programme.

If as many people had turned up for the gala as had cluttered up the road when the radio appeal was made for life-savers, then the club would have no problem finishing the new life-saving headquarters!

It would also be very interesting to know how many people called in on their way back to town to see how progress was being made on the clubhouse - let alone make a donation! If you were one of those who rushed out to Wainui, how about sending a couple of dollars to the club. You never know, you just might need their services one day!
