The giant oil tank being erected by the Caltex Oil Co. near Kaiti Beach has reached a very interesting stage. The roof has been built inside the tank, and over a large number of empty oil drums. As the tank is built up, water will be poured into the tank and the drums will float up, thus enabling the roof to be used as a working platform.

The open air theatre on Centennial Marine Drive presents a very attractive appearance with its green sward, planted trees and shrubs. Work is just about completed on the Albert Street I.H.C. Hostel extension. The new 10 bed wing (two double and six single rooms) will be named The Florence Taylor Wing in memory of Mrs Florence Taylor, who died recently. Mrs Taylor became associated with I.H.C. when she began teaching at the Kahutia School in 1959. Since that time she had been secretary of the society, and also secretary of the hostel subcommittee, a position she held at the time of her death. The wing is to be opened by the Minister of Social Welfare, Mr King, on March 30.
