Prowess in the Heat

Competitors in this year's Gisborne Athletic Club championships enjoyed a fast track to put up good times, but on the debit side the enervating heat did its best to pull back the contestants. However the athletes' prowess was not in doubt and determination overcame all else.

The 200 metre track events saw mostly easy wins for the winners except perhaps for C. Mita in the colts' event which he is seen taking by a metre from T. Proudfoot and S. Hawkins.

K. Robinson has an easy win in the B grade girls' event.

Taking their titles in their respective 200 metre events are Mark Furlan (B boys); Sandra Preston (A girls); W. Wickremasuriya (junior men); Peter Whitfield (men's).

Riki Peachey takes the A grade boys' easily.

Gillian File ran right away from R. Metcalfe to win the two contestant women's event.
