Grand Prix

High speeds, plenty of noise, and strong competition made a success of Gisborne's first Motor Cycle Grand Prix. Riders from all round the country participated, with most races carding large fields.

The sidecar riders attracted a lot of attention with their speed and skill, the sidecar "passenger" ensuring the success of the machine as much as the driver. This Castroi team shows its expertise around the Banks Street-Awapuni Road corner.

James Grogan (No. 29) on his Yamaha 125 held on comfortably in the lead, from A. Burrell on a Suzuki 100, to win Race 4, a 125 racing class 13-mile event. Here they wind-up for the long seaside back-straight.
