The Gisborne Boxing Association held a very enjoyable end-of-year function where the top awards for the year were presented by Dr Des Dowse. The recipients, with Dr Dowse (left) were, from left, in front, Darryl Lloyd (Howe Cup for gamest loser), M. Davenport (Durston Cup for most improved novice), Katene Aupouri (Lysant Clayton Cup for most scientific boxer), Francis Hongara (Corson Cup for most outstanding boxer and Wally Jonasen Trophy for Gisborne's best performed boxer) and Mr Jim Hongara (Leo Davy Trophy for trainer of most winners). At back: Mr Ron Durston (Allen & Sons Trophy for gym with most winners), Kevin Williams (O'Connell Cup for most outstanding junior) and John McClutchie (Whelan Bros Trophy for best all round boxer).

Judith Clarke, 17 Asquith Street, came home from Wellington with the N.Z. Croquet Council Cup which she won in the president's junior invitation event. Judith won 26-1 in a play-off and also won 13 out of her 14 games.

Boating is a great sport but you don't get very far in a swimming poof. However, boat owners, if you have a swimming pool, and need to do some running repairs on your boat trailer, where better a place to put the boat than in the pool?
