Two members of the Gisborne Civic Band have been selected for the National Band of New Zealand. They are Ray Wood.

Russell Boyle. Ray plays the double B flat bass and Russell plays the trombone. The band plays together in Christchurch on January 19, and then prepares to take part in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on January 24. Ray Wood has always been a keen bandsman and last year received his 25-year ribbon for service to brass bands. Russell Boyle played the euphonium in the National Band of 1970 but has since concentrated on the trombone, which he finds more satisfying. Russell has been a member of the Civic Band for the past 18 months.
