A Pleasant Hobby

Mr Robbie Twist of Willow Street has a very pleasant hobby to interest him in his spare time. Mr Twist is a very keen rock and stone collector and polisher, and this he does purely as a hobby and for his own pleasure. He has collected his rocks and stones locally, and also has some from up North and from Birdling's Flat in the South island.

Mr Twist at his mud saw which is balanced to grind slowly but surely through this large lump of milky agate. It weighs 17lbs and is one of the largest pieces seen round about. The mud saw is made of 20 gauge galvanised steel, and a combination of emery powder and water are used to lubricate the saw as the rock is cut. The rocks are then polished and added to the collection.

Mr Twist with some of his collection. He is holding a type of greenstone. This piece is notable for the fine cut achieved by the mud saw– which, They said, couldn 't be done. The rocks at the back include sandstone, amethyst and flintstone
